How to use whiteboard in Zoom

Zoom program stands out from the competition for its interactivity, users can not only communicate in any convenient way, but also display various information on the monitor. During a video conference, each participant can display images or text documents from the computer or mobile device’s memory. Did you know that you can draw on top of images and documents? This tool will be useful during a business conference or online lesson, because you can create explanations for different types of tasks. It only remains to figure out how to draw in Zoom.

Instruction manual

During a video conference, enable the desktop demonstration feature. This tool can be used by all participants in the conversation. Next, in the window that opens, select Zoom and click “Sharing”. These three steps are highlighted in green in the screenshot below.


If you move the mouse cursor to the top of the program window, you will see a menu where you should select “Comment”.


After that, you will see another toolbar with tools, and there you need to find the draw button. If you move the mouse cursor to this button, a set of drawing tools will appear.


The toolbar has straight and curved lines, arrows, the thickness and color of which can be set based on your needs. There are ready-made shapes: rectangles, circles and more, their color and thickness can also be changed based on their preference.

Other tools:

  • Text-a function for creating labels by typing on the keyboard
  • Placemark – a tool for creating placemarks in the form of various shapes, such as a heart, question mark, asterisk, and other
  • Erasers – a tool for deleting previously drawn shapes
  • Cancel – returns to the previous action
  • Repeat – ability to go back to the last action
  • Clear – the function will remove all previously applied objects, making the canvas clean
  • Save – ability to export a drawing to an image file (JPEG, BMP, PNG)

Opportunities for the organizer

If necessary, the organizer can make this option run for all participants at once. To use this feature, click the “More” button and select “Allow participants to comment” in the menu that appears. The corresponding buttons are highlighted in green in the screenshot below.


The participant must click on “View Settings ” and launch the “Comment” tool. These buttons are highlighted in green in the image below.

Disabling the function

The organizer can also disable the feature on all participants ‘ computers at any time. To do this, click on the “More” toolbar and select “Disable comments” in the menu that appears. The corresponding items are highlighted in green in the image below.
